I am a researcher in European literature of the Renaissance, working on the NWO (Dutch Research Council) funded project, ‘Discovering Europe in the Eearly Modern Period: How Literary Bestsellers Shapes a Diverse Community (1517-1713)’. I focus on the role and representation of multilingualism in relation to European identity in European bestsellers of the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. At the HAB, I will be studying copies of polyglot printed romances – short stories printed in facing page translations, in two, three, and sometimes even four languages – for clues to their use and significance for their earliest owners.
