The non-university funding institutions include the DAAD, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the Gerda Henkel Foundation, the Fulbright Commission and the Volkswagen Foundation as partners and host institutions. Researchers also come to Wolfenbüttel with their own project funds to work with the holdings.

The time spent together in Wolfenbüttel creates connections that remain alive beyond the stay in Wolfenbüttel, and there is a large circle of alumni, from which, among others, the American Friends of the HAB Foundation has emerged.
